We’re extremely fortunate to have our festival at de Beekse Bergen’s majestic woodland area, and we’re trying our hardest to sustain its natural beauty. This means we put a great deal of emphasis on sustainable festival-production. Every year, we make a concentrated effort to make Best Kept Secret that much more environment friendly. That’s why we urge you to treat the terrain as respectfully as us.
One of the measures we’ve taken since 2013 is the deposit system for drinking cups. All beers and beverages are poured into dense cups, which you can immediately return to any bar before the next round of drinks. We’ve been able to save almost two tons of plastic waste this way. We offer all other waste separately to the waste processor. We’ve conferred about this with our caterers to reduce the amount of food waste. Whatever remains will be supplied to the local food bank.
A fair chunk of our stages and backstage production runs on fixed voltage. This reduces the use of generators and spares thousands liters of diesel fuel. We’ve switched the lighting of our festival site almost entirely to the most up-to-date LED-lighting. Even our 4.5 kilometers of prick lights are completely LED and save up to 70% power in use.
