Cautious Clay

Sunday 2 June

Since Muhammad Ali dropped his brilliant birth name Cassius Clay, it was simply a question of when that someone would reclaim it. Brooklyn-based bard Joshua Karpeh may not have Ali’s right hook, his sheer talent and charisma are indisputable. As Cautious Clay, he translates influences from the creme de la creme of classic pop – Joni Mitchell, Quincy Jones and Rick James – to a modern sound palette of electronics, neo-soul, indie folk, soft jazz and futuristic gospel.

‘Float like butterfly, sting like a bee’, but in a completely different context: vibrant, vulnerable and impactful like a cupid’s arrow.
