When you listen to Jay Som’s brilliant sophomore album Everybody Works, it’s hard to believe she produced, wrote and performed the entire thing within the modest confines of her bedroom. The album brings a wonderful confluence of vibrant pop immediacy and indie rock quirkiness, both winsome and well-crafted. It’s not surprising Melina Duterte was crowned Best New Music by Pitchfork with a tidy 8.2 mark. Whether you dig Yo La Tengo or Frank Ocean, it’s due time to hop on the Jay Som bus. And yes…we do like the bus!
