Nana Adjoa’s excellent EP Down At The Root (Pt.1) presents a brilliant and elemental mix of folk, trip hop, psych rock and orchestral pop. Think of Balthazar’s knack for meticulous arrangement, but with more soul, depth and playfulness. Each of the four songs are so strong and well-balanced, they retain their sincerity and originality. Everything breathes freely and organically, as if the music writes itself almost. Adjoa exhibits an astute ear for detail and strange, beautiful contrasts, as her soulful voice becomes a beacon of warmth and generosity.
