Professional slacker Nathan Williams became a beloved cult hero for his grainy and ragged garage punk. Williams released his very first record completely DIY. Throughout the years – now six more records and counting – Wavves gradually became a more melodic and dynamic outfit, albeit with the necessary burst of fuzz and distortion for ballast. The previous album channeled more surf rock influences, with the strut of a tinkling tambourine and some saccharine sing-alongs, washing over like a breezy carefree ride across the beach on a sunny day. Even with a little more mellowness, Wavves remains the uncrowned King Of The Beach.
