Those with their antennae finely-tuned to everything indie rock-related are well aware of the past struggles of Zachary Cole Smith, chief songwriter of DIIV. The trio, however, has cunningly escaped the clutches of fatalism the last half decade. With excellent new LP Deceiver out and about, DIIV have definitively killed the drama, happily resigned to the virtues of friendship and craftsmanship. Good thing too, because what other band could mould shoegaze, dream pop and noise rock together with so much gusto and incisiveness? Enthusiasts who witnessed that spry performance on our main stage back in 2016 can certainly attest.
