In the 90s, DJ Assault brought a new surge of life to the scene where techno was born: Detroit. Craig Adams’s formula was effective: writing catchy floor fillers that the girls wanted to dance to. Classics like ‘Crank This Mutha’ and ‘Sex On The Beach’ reconcile the innovation of previous generation of DJs with the hooks of popular rap music, Chicago house and booty techno from Miami, giving DJ Assault a completely original style: ghetto tech. Though the man himself isn’t the biggest fan of that term, you can’t deny that after all these years his work is as impactful as during its conception.
