At first sight, these chief noisemakers aren’t exactly the subtlest of units, but appearances can be deceiving. Behind the barbed-wired walls of feedback, lacerating drums and tormented squalls of frontman Dara Kiely, Girl Band have arguably more in common with techno than present-day rock. Not exactly a blasphemous statement when that unruly cover of Blawan’s “Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage” drills into your earholes. Second album The Talkies feels even more like all ‘rock’ conventions have been thrown into the shredder. Indeed, Girl Band ran so incumbent Irish hypes such as Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital could walk, and don’t you forget it.
