The Congolese collective KOKOKO! awakens the spirit of protest by literally building music from nothing. Self-made instruments are assembled from everyday objects or waste, and then played with burning passion and sleek virtuosity. This new movement of Congolese jazz is interwoven with electronic productions on stage and in the studio, which usually leads to quite a rambunctious scene. With local Afro Jazz-branches and American hip hop as important touchstones, KOKOKO! open all registers. For those who enjoy dancing outside of conventional rhythmic patterns, this show is certainly one box to tick off.
