The Ugandan musician Otim Alpha used to be the wedding ceremony leader of his hometown of Gulu City. Otim Alpha is a master of the adungu and nganga: two Ugandan instruments that bear a striking resemblance to the harp. As one of the musicians growing up with the folk traditions of Acholi, he reinterprets the local wedding music with digital tools on the computer. Almost two decades later, Otim Alpha’s groundbreaking musical foundations inspired a brand new movement of sorts: a high-octane polyrhythmic symbiosis of electronic music and traditional instrumentation.
