They may seem a bit of an outlier, but honest to goodness, Squid manage to create a fun little happening time and time again. They promptly break up songs with wayward improvisations, or summarise the day down to its smallest banalities; nothing is excluded. Squid are indebted to experimental heroes such as Robert Wyatt and Yoko Ono, but will also happily adapt the hook-heavy cadence of LCD Soundsystem or Talking Heads. The ultimate Rorschach test converted into spiky post-punk goodness: Squid squirts it’s ink with maximum bravado and whatever you end up seeing in the resulting patterns is probably fair game to them.
