Sophie Straat (Live)
Dutch folk singer Sophie Straat grew up in the late 1990s in the former, but now gentrified working-class neighborhood de Pijp. Nowadays, Straat writes, together with her partner Wieger, about the effects of gentrification in Amsterdam. Her song gives listeners a glimpse into the lives of the green cargo bike owner, the Zuidas worker and the child who just moved to Amsterdam Noord. In addition to interpreting day to day life through song, Straat makes socially engaged work as an artist.
