Checkpoint

Aussie turbo punks

Is it the giant spiders or the zillion miles of outback desert? Something about Australia makes punk bands a little batty; you can safetly call Checkpoint yet another anomaly.

The band's breakthrough album DRIFT is an endlessly fun joyride, sounding like an asylum train of blistering riffs and chants. It isn't just bite-sized chunks of chaos either, for Checkpoint have a 12-minute track called '10th Dimension Advertisement Apocalypse’ about, well, the end days.

So what's Checkpoint's secret?
A compulsion to dwell into the absurd and play songs twice as fast and twisted as originally intended. Henry Rollins called DRIFT the coolest album he's heard in awhile, so there's that as well.
