Romperayo
Colombian cumbia mischief-makers
Colombian cumbia act Romperayo are incessantly wacky and adventurous, inspiring infinite number of ways to dance.
The tropical beats converging in the average Romperayo song are some of the smoothest and supple you can wrap your brain around. But then the bouncer allows some cheesy vintage synths into the club, you’d think the vibe would be off. Miraculously, it totally works, and you don’t really want it to end.
What Romperayo's secret?
Percussionist Pedro Ojeda plays in another cumbia favorite, Los Pirañas, a group largely based on improvisation. Romperayo is his brainchild, forged in studio rather than people jamming together in a room. With that added prep time, Romperayo leave nothing to chance to make a place move in the most imaginative ways.
