The Zawose Queens

Rapturous Gogo spirituals

The Zawose Queens
  • Saturday 13  →  21.30 - 22.30

Tanzania's Zawose Queens channel vibrations of the ancestors through their rapturous polyphonic singing.

As the daughter and granddaughter of the legendary Dr. Hukwe Zawose, Leah and Pendo are ushering in the family tradition as its first female practitioners. Their fusion of the Gogo music and modern-day electronics expresses a deep connection towards nature, to ceremony and to ritual: music teeming with unshakable spirit and fire.
