Fritz Kola - Cindy Lo's Wide Awake
Cindy Lo brings Wide Awake the Floor with Fritz-kola
This weekend at Best Kept Secret, the Fritz-kola container transformed into a live artwork by illustrator and visual artist Cindy Lo.
Over three festival days, Cindy hand-painted the container in real time, gradually building the piece layer by layer. Rather than revealing the final artwork all at once, around one third was completed each day, allowing festival visitors to follow the process and see the container change throughout the weekend. By Sunday, the full-scale artwork was revealed, turning the container into a bold visual landmark on the festival grounds.
The collaboration with Fritz-kola was all about making art visible and accessible. Visitors didn’t just experience the finished result; they became part of the process by watching the work take shape day after day.
Alongside the container installation, Fritz-kola also hosted an activation space where visitors could customise their own clothing using elements taken directly from Cindy Lo’s artwork. Festival-goers were invited to remix and apply parts of the visual language onto their own pieces; extending the artwork beyond the container and into the crowd.
After sunset, the project took on a second life.
Using video mapping, the painted artwork was activated with movement and light, transforming the container into an animated version of itself. The projections responded to the shapes and compositions of the original painting, creating a new layer of the experience after dark. This became a live extension of Wide Awake, bringing together illustration, scale and projection in one installation.
Cindy Lo is a France-based visual artist and illustrator, trained in illustration and film animation in Paris. Her work moves across illustration, moving image and large-scale projection. Her portfolio includes short films, immersive 360° projection shows and six years of independent commissions for the Sharjah Light Festival. Alongside her artistic practice, she also develops workshops designed to make creativity accessible to wider audiences.
Her visual language is inspired by natural structures and systems, drawing from fields such as biology, botany and scientific imagery, resulting in detailed, layered compositions that invite people to look closer.
We’re happy to continue our collaboration with Fritz-kola this year. Last year’s project already added something special to the festival experience, and it was exciting to see that energy return in a new format; combining live painting, audience participation and projection into one evolving installation.
