21-year-old Sophie Allison recently covered the Springsteen-classic “I’m On Fire,” which immediately delineates how fast her career is taking off. Since breakthrough album Clean got awarded by Pitchfork as “Best New Music”, the indie pop phenomenon Soccer Mommy seems to be everywhere. On songs like “Cool” and “Blossom”, Allison doesn’t have to waste a lot of words to steal our hearts: no Delphic imagery, but songwriting with acute clarity and melodicism. On Clean, Soccer Mommy mainly sang about lovelorn relationships, though on the highly-acclaimed single “Lucy” she focuses her gaze on the devil itself.
